Hi Tsuro,

Thanks for your encouragement and support!

It is my hope that by sharing my thoughts about life and things in it, people can get inspired and continue to strive for a better life, a better future, instead of feeling bad about our own past - failures. Yes, the feeling of being a failure in the past may be true, but that only serves as a stepping stone to greater success at the end, I realize. It's only temporary failure. Like Havelock Ellis said: It is on our failures that we base a new and different and better success.

Take care,
Amos

[...] dj vasu wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptWhat are the two most important things you think you can’t live without in the 21st century? Maybe you have more than two. What are they? The number is not important. What’s important is whether you have ever thought about this so far in your life and whether you can give an honest answer to yourself. The way you answer yourself and the answer itself will determine how you’re gonna live your life in the 21st century. Realize that everyone’s answer is different and unique to his/her own circumstances. This difference in the answers, too, is not important. The important thing is whether you have the answer for yourself or not. This is going to affect how we’re gonna live our life from now on and explain why we’re living the way we are now (if you have already given yourself the answer). [...]

Here is another thoughtful post I just came across about marriage. http://accentsofbella.wordpress.com/2008/02/13/marriage/

The author said:

"I have been happily married for over 6 years now. I’m not going to say it has all been magical bliss, but I will say that we are very much in love and very happy. This didn’t come without effort, though, and I fear that is what most of the world is lacking; effort to make the other happy. To forget oursleves at times and really take care of your spouses needs. I think that human nature is to defend and care for ourslevs, becoming SELFISH. We need to try to always think of what we can do to serve the others needs, and I know we would all be a lot happier. Selfishness destroys people."

I think it's plainly true. We're made selfish by nature, and this selfishness is destructive. That's why much effort is needed to maintain a good happy marriage, if one still cares.

Hi Isabel,

Thank you for sharing your story. You certainly have tasted all tastes of life. Life certainly isn't easy, but you have managed to raise your children up and help make their lives successful! I'm sure that task wasn't easy as you must have your own struggles at the time to tackle in your times. And, you have managed to keep a good marriage and a good home! That's even not easy when we look at all different societies today where broken families and marriages are often heard. Congratulations!

As for running your business, I would suggest that you look into the depths of your heart to see what you're so passionate to do. Be honest with yourself. Hear the still voice. See where it is calling you to. No one knows yourself (your interests, your strengths, your weaknesses) better than yourself. This is why you have to be honest with yourself. You cannot lie to yourself. That would be the most terrible thing you'd ever do to yourself, if you did. Someone can lie to you, but not you.

So, search inside your heart what it is there you can do for the rest of your life! If you need help, seek help. If you're not familiar with, say, computer, learn it. The Web is a good resource and is the cheapest way to learn about anything you're interested in. After all, having a lifelong learning attitude is what it takes to be not a laggard of times.

All the best!

I feel the way you do, however, I'm 51. I've raised my children, they are all good, successful people. I have a good marriage, a nice home. We're experiencing the economic slowdown, just like everyone, but financially, we're ok. I'm sure this doesn't sound like a sob story, but I always had very good paying, upper management jobs. 6 yrs ago, the company where I worked was sold, and I was let go. I decided at the time to take a part-time job so that I could enjoy my 2 youngest children's high school years..I was also very, very burned out. The last year with the company was grueling, and I desperately needed a break. It lasted 3 years, then I found myself once again unemployed. I have not worked outside the home for the last 3 years. I needs to get back into the workforce, but frankly, I'm scared. I don't have a degree, so getting back into management will be nearly impossible. I gringe at the thought of being stuck in an office for hours, doing work only for the "paycheck". I dream of founding a business where I would be my own boss, in charge of my time and future, and able to earn a nice, comfortable living, but who am I kidding, every single, and I mean every single person that I know wants to do the same thing. The competition is fierce. And, let's not forget how behind I feel in technology. I am 51, and younger people run circles around me when it come to computer technology. Also, I can sense time running out. If I don't do the things I've always dreamt of soon, very, very soon, I may never do them. Sometimes I wish I had a wise, older person to guide me along the way, because as it is, the road is hard.
